Parrots and other exotic pet birds present unique challenges when it comes to animal welfare. For many birds, the loss of an owner presents a grim future. The stress of traumatic situations often results in plucking, biting and other negative behaviors that can make a bird unappealing and unwanted. The majority of animal shelters do not accept or are not equipped to handle birds and re-homing a parrot becomes significantly more difficult.
Ruffled Feathers Sanctuary ‘steps up’ to fill that void. We are a sanctuary that holds the birds’ best interest as our highest priority. With the help of dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and contributions, RFS has laid the groundwork for a self-sustainable organization that offers refuge for these birds and allows them the chance to live their long lives in as natural a setting as we can possibly provide.

- WHAT WE DO -
-BIRD RESCUE-
Ruffled Feathers takes great pride in our rapid emergency response to exotic birds in desperate need. Our team is always available 24/7, 365 days a year to help coordinate bird surrenders and has saved many a bird from the threat of euthanasia or a rapidly deteriorating existence, and we have never turned a bird away.
-PUBLIC OUTREACH-
One of the most important steps in solving animal welfare issues is confronting the source of them: people. We believe by sharing the stories of our flock we can help ensure that pet birds such as parrots are no longer treated inadequately to their physical and social needs.
-BIRD REHABILITATION-
Parrots often come to us suffering from poor physical and mental health, but we believe in every bird and provide them with an individualistic plan to ensure they can begin to recover from their traumatic pasts. Through a combination of gentle human interactions and social introduction to other birds we often see dramatic recoveries.
-PERMANENT SANCTUARY-
Ruffled Feathers Sanctuary’s ultimate goal has been to create a safe, secure and healthy home for the members of our flock, down in Florida, where they can live the rest of their long lives in as natural a setting as we can possibly provide them in comparison to their wild counterparts

Thanks to our generous supporters we now own and are operating on over 165+ acres of beautiful Florida landscape, and are in the process of constructing large free-flight aviaries for the members of our flock.
While we currently have no plans to be physically open to the public, we do want to share just how much life has improved for the hundreds of birds that call our sanctuary their forever home.
